Immersive production and translation to in-room or binaural delivery


The auditory system is broadly described, focused on its capability to produce spherical localisation and immersive sensation. Perception is used to discuss microphone pick-up, artificial spatialisation, in-room and binaural monitoring of immersive audio. Topics include listener experience, inter-subject variability and prevention of production-side listener fatigue.


Thomas has been active in pro audio research and development since 1995, on true-peak measurement, loudness measurement, sound exposure, localisation, spatialisation and subjective testing. From a background in medicine, he has taken part in audio standardisation globally. Thomas is Senior Technologist at Genelec and chairman of a working group under the European Commission tasked with prevention of hearing loss from the use of personal devices.
